Whether it's called beach frisbee or beach ultimate, the important thing is that in Boracay this beach activity is very popular, both as a recreational pastime and as a competition sport.

Frisbee in Boracay

Frisbee is the same game that kids played in their backyards or in parks close to home.

It involves the throwing and catching of a light, saucer-like disc, with players alternating between thrower and catcher.

Frisbee has remained popular as a children's toy or as a recreational beach toy.

Only now it has also taken on the status of a competition sport.

Beach Ultimate - Rules of the Game

As a sport, beach frisbee is known as Beach Ultimate, which is a team sport played by men and women of all ages.

Two teams of 5 players each alternate possession of a circular disc.

A player in possession of the disc is not allowed to run with the disc, but passes it to his team mate by throwing the disc in the air.

The objective of the game is to catch the flying disc in the end zone of the opponent to score a point.

The sport is called Ultimate because it demands the ultimate of fair play and respect for your opponent.

Even in World Championships, there are no referees.

Beach Ultimate In The Philippines

The Philippine Ultimate Association sponsors frisbee tournaments throughout the country and only recently held the 2007 Boracay Open Asian Beach Ultimate in May which was played on Boracay's White Beach.

The 16 teams which participated were from various provinces including Iloilo and Davao.

The tournament was eventually won by the Boracay Dragons.

Beach Frisbee At Judes In Boracay Philippines

Sirenna's comments (updated on May 6, 2006, in VirtualTouris).

If you are feeling energetic, head down the beach to Hey Judes and join a game of frisbee. Beware, these guys are good! Next door at Aria you can enjoy a game of beach tennis with the Italian boys.

They usually start around 5pm. In recent years, Boracay has also played host to the annual Ultimate frisbee tournament, which is entertaining to watch (though it looks exhausting). Beach volleyball is also played at several locations along the strip.

Address: Beachfront, Hey Judes / Aria
Directions: D'Mall, Near Boat Station 3.
