Popular Beaches in Boracay
Whether you prefer a well-developed beach with plenty of activities going on around you, or if you like the peace and quiet found in natural beaches, there is certainly one in Boracay that will suit your taste. Among its beaches, White Beach, as Boracay's crowning glory, is the most popular and developed beach. It has fine — some say, cotton-fine, white sand along the 4 kilometer long western side of Boracay Island.
White Beach is the favorite beach for swimming, snorkeling and playing beach sports like beach frisbee, beach volleyball and skimboarding. There are also several spots close to the shores of Boracay Island near White Beach where exotic coral gardens attract scuba divers from all over the world.
Bulabog Beach in the east, and Puka Beach in the North are two of the lesser known, but still outstanding beaches in their own right.
There are other still undeveloped beaches such as Angol Beach Boracay in the south, Panoly Beach, Balinghai Beach, Barazula Beach, Diniwid Beach, Punta Bunga Beach and Puka Shell Beach in the north.
Boracay is the Favorite Venue for International Water Sport Events
Beaches in Boracay have been the scene of many international water-based sports competitions. Most recent and better-known of these are:
- Boracay International Funboard Cup held in January and sponsored by the Asian Windsurfing Tour.
- Annual International Paraw Cup Challenge also held in January.
- International Beach Volleyball Competition usually held during the early part of the year.
- Boracay International Dragon Boat Race Philippines - held in April. In 2007, it was organized by the Boracay Island Paddlers Association (BIPA) with the support of the Philippine Tourism Authority and the Municipality of Malay.
One of the Best Beaches in the World
Boracay beaches rival those found in the U.S. and Australia. In May, 2007, two noted American newspapers, the New York Newsday and the Chicago Tribune reported that users of Yahoo! Travel rated only three other countries outside of the U.S. in the Ten Top Beaches in the world: Cancun, Mexico (3rd place), Boracay Island, Philippines (7th) and Sydney, Australia (9th).
This Beach Resort Stands Out from the Rest
Perhaps the beaches in the U.S. are more accessible to travelers. However, Boracay Island stands out from the rest. Visitors like the treatment they receive in the Philippines because Filipinos are very hospitable.
