Boracay Travel Tips for a Safe & Memorable Vacation

We are offering you some travel tips here, based on our own experiences and those of other travelers like us who have been to Boracay before. Your health, safety, comfort & convenience are the most important things to worry about on your trip to Boracay.

Personal Safety and Comfort

Always protect yourself from the harsh sun while in Boracay. Sunburn is common, so bring along a good pair of sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat.

Don't skimp on sunscreen lotion, especially if you have sensitive skin. The tropical sun in Boracay can be very unforgiving.

Don't engage in extreme sports in Boracay like kitesurfing, parasailing, or scuba diving -- unless you're really fit and up to the task.

Health Matters

Avoid dehydration. Drink lots of water, especially when going out on hikes on a hot day. Although water in Boracay is safe to drink, to avoid problems, just stick to sealed, bottled mineral water.

Keep the telephone numbers and the addresses of the local pharmacy and medical center handy.

Money Matters

Very few local merchants accept credit cards. Cold, hard cash is the preferred currency in Boracay. Before going on your trip, make sure you have enough Philippine pesos.

There are local banks and money changers around locally, but you can get a much better rate if you exchange your foreign currency or cash your travelers checks in Metro Manila.

Reliable money changers in Makati, such as Sanry's Makati (in Glorietta), can give you higher rates for your foreign currency than what you can get at the banks.

However, if somehow you run out of cash in Boracay, run to the D' Mall and get some from ATM machines there.

Secure Your Belongings

Never leave your personal belongings unattended.

Always keep them secure by your side, especially when relaxing on the beach.

Have your valuables locked up in a safe box when leaving your hotel room.

Avoid displaying valuables when in crowded places, such as shopping malls or when boarding mass public transport.

These are the places frequented by pickpockets and bag snatchers.

Traveling Light

When going to Boracay for a few days' visit, you don't need to bring along a full wardrobe.

It's best if you travel light.

Bring along a few casual clothes, such as cargo pants and T-shirts for moving about.

The rest should be mostly beachwear. In December or during the rainy season, you might need a light jacket.

In case you forget to bring along any essential items, don't worry.

You can always buy them cheap in Boracay.

Tourist Information

You can also get Boracay travel tips and travel-related information from the Boracay Tourist Center.

They are located between Boat Stations 2 and 3. You can inquire about booking or confirming your flights, or money-related things such as cashing travelers checks or withdrawing cash.
